Peter Pan of Pop on Dating?

When's the best time to start dating? I think the "Peter Pan of Pop" may have some interesting suggestions for us to consider...

BACHELOR BOY
Sir Cliff Richard

When I was young my father said
Son I have something to say
And what he told me I’ll never forget
Until my dyin’ day.

He said son you are a bachelor boy
And that’s the way to stay.
Son, you be a bachelor boy until your dyin’ day

When I was sixteen I fell in love
With a girl as sweet as could be.
But I remember’d just in time,
What my daddy said to me.

He said son you are a bachelor boy
And that’s the way to stay.
Son, you be a bachelor boy until your dyin’ day

As time goes by I probably will
Meet a girl and fall in love
Then I’ll get married have a wife and a child
And they’ll be my turtle doves.

But until then I’ll be a bachelor boy
And that’s the way I’ll stay,
Happy to be a bachelor boy,
Until my dyin’ day.
But until then I’ll be a bachelor boy
And that’s the way I’ll stay,
Happy to be a bachelor boy,
Until my dyin’ day.

According to my personal interpretation, the best time to start dating is when I'm ready to get married. For what's the purpose of dating? Why, to find a potential mate, of course!

As Stephen R. Covey has proposed wonderfully, begin with the end in mind. If you're thinking of marriage, then start with dating. If you're thinking of just friends, then start with friending. If you're thinking of just having fun, then start with growing up - ethically, morally, spiritually, emotionally, socially, physically, mentally, intellectually.

Dates should be meaningful. Even fun. Dates should help us know the opposite sex better. Know as in increasing our understanding. Learning to appreciate. Learning to communicating with and relate to people of different types. Temperaments. Backgrounds.

Like just any other activity, knowing must have a limit. In older English, whenever a man knew his wife, the result is usually a baby! So, let's keep knowing in its proper context - no close encounters of our devout Muslim friends' kind. Close as in unnecessary physical contact. Behind locked doors. In dimly lit places. No intimate physical contact. It's for our own good. Being conservative has its many advantages. Innocence. Life as it was meant to be. Keep sex to only within marriage and we'll keep sex-related problems out of our lives. HIV/AIDS. STD. Guaranteed.

So, when am I ready to date? Most likely at least three years more than I think!

Just in case you're wondering (still), the "Peter Pan of Pop" is none other than... (drum roll please!) ... Sir Cliff Richard.

Can you smell that?

A cup of coffee. A dish of sambal petai. Durian.
What do they all have in common? :-P
